Description
The International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB) was founded in 1986 to address the problem of high blood pressure (hypertension) among ethnic minority populations. As the society celebrates its 20th Anniversary, ISHIB has expanded it's organizational scope to include diabetes, stroke, lipid disorders, renal disease, kidney disease, obesity, and other related cardiovascular diseases. The objectives of the society are to: provide medical education to practicing professionals, health educators and medical students, residents, and interns; promote public awareness of the harmful effects of hypertension; develop health-related programs to improve the quality of life in ethnic minority populations worldwide; engage in collaborative efforts with other organizations to provide community outreach that educates the public on ways to prevent the complications of hypertension and other related cardiovascular diseases; stimulate research and clinical investigation; and disseminate scientific findings to aid in the understanding of differences in hypertension among ethnic minority populations.
