Description
Founded in 1983 in response to a growing need for new services, knowledge, and skills in diversity, NMCI's mission is to increase communication, understanding and respect among people of different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and to provide a forum for discussion of the critical issues of multiculturalism facing our society. The Institute seeks to accomplish its goal through conferences and individualized training and consulting programs. In addition, NMCI produces educational resource materials for educators, trainers, mental health and social service professionals and also maintains information on community resources for multilingual counseling in the Washington, DC area where experienced health professionals associated with NMCI provide therapy in 25 languages to individuals and families. As a private, non-profit organization, NMCI is funded through fees for service, contracts, foundation grants, and corporate and individual contributions.
