Description
An international initiative created in 1995, Health On the Net Foundation (HON http://www.hon.ch/) is a non-profit organization and a non-governmental organization, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. HON is devoted to develop solutions to respond to the Internet problems potentially threatening for the health and medical domains such as the accessibility of information (multilingual medical search engine and directory and self-help tools) and protection of the Internet citizens through a third party accreditation program based on the HON Code of Conduct for Medical and Health Web Sites (HONcode principles http://www.hon.ch/HONcode/Conduct.html). Health On the Net monitors trends in consumer health Internet use to provide appropriate solutions, including a search engine and directory, and self-help tools such as Stop-Tabac, an interactive smoking cessation program. All HON services are free of commercial influence, thanks to the support of the Direction générale de la santé Département de l’Action Sociale et de Santé (DASS – République et canton de Genéve, Switzerland) and the Geneva University Hospitals.
