Description

In its mission to protect and improve human health, the NIH conducts and supports basic, applied, and clinical and health services research to understand the processes underlying human health and to acquire new knowledge to help prevent, diagnose, and treat human diseases and disabilities.To achieve its goals, the NIH spends 80-85 percent of its total budget in support of biomedical and behavioral research and research training by more than 50,000 scientists located at more than 1,700 universities, research institutions, and medical centers across the United States and abroad.
