Description

The Cooley's Anemia Foundation was founded in 1954 to work on a cure for Cooley's anemia and to provide support for patients and their families. The Foundation has 18 affiliated chapters that provide a link to the public and services to those families requiring counseling, advice, patient services, and education.It coordinates scientific and medical efforts in the research area and raises money for basic and clinical research. Some educational materials on Cooley's anemia, also called thalassemia, are available from the Foundation. The Foundation has a medical advisory board and sponsors a patient support group called Thalassemia Action Group (TAG).

The Foundation provides some educational materials including a pamphlet explaining the genetic basis of Cooley's Anemia. Serial Publication: Lifeline (newsletter), monthly--news articles describing activities of the Foundation, announcements of meetings and fundraising dinners, and personal stories.
