The file DynaWght.DAT is a fixed-column ASCII dataset containing
longitudinally consistent weights for use with the American
Housing Survey Metropolitan Samples (AHS-MS), 1985-1992. The
dataset contains these fields:
Variable
| Columns
| Description
|
Control |
1-12 |
AHS record ID Number |
ConsWt |
13-21 |
Longitudinally consistent weight (with decimal point
and four decimal digits) |
SMSA |
22-25 |
SMSA ID number |
Notes:
- Control can be used to match these data with the records in
the standard AHS-MS microdata. SMSA is provided to make this
matching a little easier.
- Only those records which have nonzero consistent weights are
included in DynaWght.DAT. Thus, all other records in AHS-MS
should NOT be used for longitudinal analysis (at least not with
these weights).
- The AHS-MS surveys metropolitan areas at four
year intervals. Thus, for each record in DynaWght.DAT there will
be two entries in the AHS-MS micro data, four years apart: 1985
and 1989, 1986 and 1990, 1987 and 1991, or 1988 and 1992.
- The consistent weights were calibrated as part of a project
studying changes in the rental housing stock. Their accuracy in
other kinds of analysis is left to the judgement of the user.
- The file tchapndx.wdw, a Microsoft Word for Windows 6.0 file,
describes how the weights were computed. Additional questions
