ADA Technical Assistance Program

horizontal border

The Department of Justice ADA Technical Assistance Program provides free information and technical assistance directly to businesses, non-profit service providers, state and local governments, people with disabilities, and the general public. Our technical assistance services provide the most up-to-date information about the ADA and how to comply with its requirements. In addition to the major activities discussed below, we undertake broad and targeted outreach initiatives to increase awareness and understanding of the ADA to reach specific audiences at the local level, including hotels and motels, restaurants, small businesses, builders, mayors and town officials, law enforcement, people with disabilities, and others.

ADA Information Line

Our toll-free ADA Information Line provides information and free publications about the requirements of the ADA including the ADA Standards for Accessible Design.

ADA Materials

As part of our enforcement and technical assistance efforts to promote compliance with the ADA, we provide a range of publications. These include the regulations that apply to State and local governments (Title II) and those that apply to businesses and non-profit service providers (Title III); Technical Assistance Manuals with yearly updates that explain these regulations; and materials that promote understanding of specific ADA requirements including a series of Question-and-Answer publications addressing specific topics, and a series called ADA-TA aimed at businesses, State and local governments, architects, and others explaining efficient ways to comply with the ADA. These and other items, plus an annotated list describing our materials can be obtained through the ADA Information Line.

Department of Justice regulations, Technical Assistance Manuals and publications are available for viewing and downloading. Some are also available in PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format.
