VISTA Corridor Flood Recovery
... a Central Cedar Rapids Weed & Seed initiative
All summer associates finished their time with the team September 12, 2008

Cedar Rapids, Iowa --

When record flooding devastated the Midwest, VISTA Corridor Flood Recovery was formed to recruit and train AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service To America (VISTA) members to assist with flood recovery in Linn and Johnson counties, an area which also known as Iowa's Technology Corridor.
Since June 2008, about 70 VISTA members have served in Cedar Rapids, most as seven- to 10-week summer associates. There are also several yearlong members.
VISTA members focus on building volunteer capacity and fighting poverty.
In Linn County, VISTA members staff the East Central Iowa Volunteer Reception Center, work on "mucking" clean up crews, assist at area agencies such as United Way of East Central Iowa and staff the Hands On Disaster Response's Cedar Rapids site.
The group's efforts continually adjust to a recovering community's ever-changing needs.
