NRC TO HOLD TWO PUBLIC MEETINGS SEPT. 10 IN PIKETON, OHIO

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled two public meetings in Piketon, Ohio, on Sept. 10 to discuss results of the agency's most recent Licensee Performance Reviews of the United States Enrichment Corporation=s Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant and American Centrifuge Lead Cascade Facility.

The first meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. (EDT) at the Ohio State University South Centers Auditorium, located at 1864 Shyville Road in Piketon. The NRC staff will discuss with USEC officials the results of the agency=s review of safety performance at the Portsmouth plant for a period from July 2, 2006, to July 5, 2008.  The discussion will include regulatory performance in the areas of Safety Operations, Safeguards, Radiological Controls, Facility Support and Licensing.

The meeting is open to observation by interested members of the public, and NRC officials will be available to answer questions before the end of the meeting.

The NRC will conduct a second public meeting immediately following the Portsmouth licensee performance review, at about 7:30 p.m. to discuss the NRC’s review of performance at the American Centrifuge Lead Cascade facility. The NRC staff will discuss licensee regulatory performance from Aug. 25, 2006, to July 5, 2008, in the areas of Safety Operations, Safeguards, Radiological Controls, Facility Support and Licensing, and will again be available to answer questions from the public prior to the meeting's conclusion.
