NRC ISSUES CONFIRMATORY ORDER TO FORMER
HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT CONTRACT EMPLOYEE |
||
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a Confirmatory Order to Anthony Fortuna, who was employed as a contract electrician at Southern Nuclear’s Hatch nuclear plant near Baxley, Ga., in early 2006. The NRC’s Office of Investigations found that Fortuna failed to provide complete and accurate information on his application for plant access. As a result, the NRC staff identified an apparent violation and Fortuna requested the NRC’s alternative dispute resolution process. The ADR process uses a neutral mediator with no decision-making authority to assist the parties reaching an agreement. Under the terms of the agreement and Confirmatory Order, Fortuna has agreed that his actions were in violation of NRC regulations and acknowledges the seriousness of the actions. If he decides to work at a nuclear plant or other NRC licensee in the future, Fortuna also agreed to comply with all licensee and regulatory requirements, including providing complete and accurate information to gain plant access. As a result of these commitments, the NRC will not issue a formal violation or take other enforcement action against Fortuna for this issue. |
