LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THREE MILE ISLAND UNIT 1 |

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced today that an application for a 20-year renewal of the operating license for the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant, Unit 1, is available for public review. The Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit 1 is a pressurized water reactor located 10 miles southeast of Harrisburg, Pa. The current operating license expires April 19, 2014. Unit 2 was shut down in March 1979 following a partial meltdown. Three Mile Island Unit 1’s operator, AmerGen Energy Co., a subsidiary of Exelon Generating Co. LLC, submitted the application Jan. 8.
