LICENSING BOARD TO HEAR ORAL ARGUMENTS IN INDIAN POINT LICENSE RENEWAL PROCEEDING
Printable Version

The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel (ASLBP), an independent judicial arm of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, will hold oral arguments in the Indian Point nuclear power plant license renewal proceeding beginning on Monday, March 10, in White Plains (Westchester County), N.Y.

During the sessions, which will be held at the Richard J. Daronco Courthouse, 111 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., White Plains, N.Y., the three-judge panel will hear oral arguments on the admissibility of contentions and other outstanding matters related to the proceeding.  The oral arguments will begin at 9 a.m. on March 10 and continue thereafter during normal business hours until completed.  While the sessions will be open to the public for observation, participation will be limited to those parties involved in the proceeding.

Numerous governmental entities and organizations have submitted requests for a hearing on the Indian Point license renewal application, which was received by the NRC on April 30, 2007.  The application from plant owner and operator Entergy seeks a 20-year extension of the initial 40-year operating license for the Buchanan, N.Y., facility.

Documents related to the license renewal application are available on the NRC’s web site at: http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal/applications/indian-point.html.
