NRC ASSIGNS NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT
GRAND GULF NUCLEAR PLANT |
||
U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region IV office in Arlington, Texas, have assigned Richard L. Smith as the senior resident inspector at the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant near Port Gibson, Mississippi. Smith joined the NRC as a reactor engineer in Region III in 2004, and served as the resident inspector at the Davis-Besse nuclear plant in Oak Harbor, Ohio. He is a veteran of the nuclear navy and worked as a senior reactor operator at the Hatch nuclear plant in Baxley, Ga. Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interfacing with plant workers and the public. Smith joins resident inspector Andy Barrett at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. The NRC staff at Grand Gulf can be reached by calling 601-437-4620. |
