King County Criminal Justice Initiatives (CJI)

Now available: 3rd Year Evaluation Report

King County implemented a range of programs and services in 2003 and 2004 to help people in the criminal justice system with unmet mental health or substance abuse needs connect to treatment services, stable housing, and other supports as alternatives to incarceration.

Goals:

To provide services that are coordinated, effective and efficient that reduce jail time and the rate of re-offenses and offer individuals a better chance for successfully returning to their communities.

  • Co-occurring disorder integrated treatment
  • Housing vouchers
  • Mental health treatment vouchers
  • Methadone vouchers
  • Intensive outpatient chemical dependency treatment at the King County
  • Community Center for Alternative Programs (CCAP)
  • Criminal justice liaisons
  • Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Treatment and Support Act (ADATSA) application worker
  • Department of Social and Health Services application worker
  • Cross-system training
  • Enhanced screening and assessments in jail

Evaluation Reports Available to Download

The program evaluation reports describe each of the service programs created through the CJI; the jail and clinical outcomes for each program; and client, staff and stakeholder views across programs and for the CJI as a whole. The reports also provide recommendations for the future.
