Reproductive Toxicity

Superfund Basic Research Program

Reproductive toxicity occurs when contaminants adversely affect the human - female or male - reproductive system. Research is targeted at developing a fuller understanding of the relationship between exposures and risk of toxicity. One SBRP-funded project is studying the effect of lead accumulation from environmental exposures in pregnant women - specifically with regards to its affect on fetuses and infants during pregnancy and lactation. Another project is examining the association between bone lead, blood lead, and sperm abnormalities among men.
