Winter Alert Message
    My Fellow Coal Miners-

Did you know that more than 100 miners have been killed in mine explosions over the last 20 years?

More than half of those explosions occurred during colder weather months-October through March.

During winter months, huge decreases in barometric pressure allow potentially explosive methane to move from remote areas to working areas of an underground coal mine.

This increases risk as the methane could meet with an ignition source and cause an explosion.

Precautions can be taken to help you avoid a tragic accident.

First, be sure to follow your coal mine's approved ventilation plan.

Second, always conduct good pre-shift examinations. These are very important.

Third, apply rock dust in all areas of the mine.

And last, never, ever smoke cigarettes in an underground coal mine.

Thank you for listening and always remember-safety is a value.
