Roof Fall Message
In the last five years roof falls in underground coal mines have claimed the lives of more coal miners than any other type of accident. There is no doubt that falls of coal mine roof and rib are deadly. However, there are precautions you can take to protect yourself. First, always know and understand your mine's roof control plan. This plan is developed to prevent roof falls in your mine. Know it. And follow it. Second, check the mine roof and rib often. Listen for strange sounds and look for cracks or weaknesses in the strata. Third, and most importantly, NEVER, EVER walk under unsupported roof. Never put yourself in that kind of danger. Let's recap. One. Know and follow your roof control plan. Two. Check the roof often. And three. NEVER go under unsupported roof. Follow these precautions and avoid the deadly consequences of roof falls. Thank you for listening and always remember-safety is a value. |
