MINER Act
Hello, I'm Bob Friend with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. The Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act, or the MINER Act, among other actions, requires underground coal mine operators to develop and continuously update a written emergency response plan. This plan must be activated during any mine emergency. If there is a serious accident at your operation, you are required to notify MSHA within 15 minutes. Also under the MINER Act, maximum penalties have been increased to more than $200,000 dollars for flagrant violations of mine safety rules and for repeated failure to eliminate safety hazards at your operation. Take time to review the MINER Act's requirements by visiting MSHA's website at www.msha.gov. Thank you for listening. |
