While Ike has moved on, allowing the Valley to breathe a collective sigh of relief, trouble may be on the way in the form of potentially torrential rainfall, and more flooding, across the area, particularly during the first half of the work week. The culprits will be the combination of deep moisture remaining from the tail of Ike, an early season cold front which will become stationary near the Rio Grande, and a series of upper level disturbances enhancing the lifting of this moisture into rain. Rainfall potential for the Valley is shown above. After copious rainfall in August, particularly in Starr County, many areas remain near saturation. Should heavier rainfall impact these areas, or other poor drainage locations which continue to be an issue in such areas as Elsa, Mercedes (Hidalgo), and La Feria and Santa Rosa (Cameron), flooding could quickly develop.

Also notable will be relatively cooler temperatures associated with the clouds, rain, and surface northerly winds. It is possible that should clouds and rain be dominant during the daytime hours, one or two days between Monday and Wednesday could have high temperatures fail to reach 80.
