WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Deputy Administrator James Kunder today administered the oath of office to Larry H. Brady, who became the new Mission Director for USAID in El Salvador.

Brady's new assignment will place him in charge of all USAID activities in El Salvador. These programs are focused on expanding access to primary education, sustaining higher levels of economic growth needed to reduce poverty, improving the rule of law and good governance, and combating transnational crime and narco-trafficking.

"Larry's managerial skills, political acuity, and insightful policy and programming leadership will enable him to thrive as our new Mission Director to El Salvador. I know Larry well. He was our lead on strategy for all of Asia and the Middle East during an especially demanding time period," said Kunder during remarks at the ceremony.

Prior to becoming the Director, Brady was USAID's Deputy Director in El Salvador. He assumed that position in August 2005, where he managed all aspects of mission operations, including the Central American and Mexico Regional Program and programs in support of the United States-Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) carried out in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Also, during the last year, Brady has served as a special assistant to the Chief Operating Officer at USAID headquarters in Washington.

Brady has served for almost 20 years with USAID, including assignments in Kenya, the Philippines, Bolivia, and Israel. From 2003 until 2005 he was the Washington Director of the Strategic Planning and Operations office of USAID's Bureau for Asia and the Near East. In this position, he provided leadership and support for USAID Missions and programs in countries spanning through Asia to the Middle East, including Burma, Vietnam, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt and the West Bank/Gaza. In 2005, he was directly involved in developing strategies and establishing budgets for the United States' relief and reconstruction response to the 2004 Asia Tsunami.

Prior to joining USAID, Brady, a certified public accountant, was the managing partner of a regional CPA firm serving tax and business clients in the intermountain area (Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico).

A native of Utah, Brady received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and a Master's degree from the National Defense University's Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
