NIAID PRIMARY CAREGIVER TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SUPPLEMENTS RELEASE DATE: June 8, 2004 NOTICE: NOT-AI-04-035 National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) (http://www.niaid.nih.gov) PURPOSE OF THIS NOTICE To encourage submission of applications for the NIAID Primary Caregiver Technical Assistance Supplements (PCTAS). NIAID recognizes that postdoctoral scientists with young children or ailing parents are sometimes unable to focus completely on their research activities because of primary caregiver responsibilities. As a result productivity can be seriously compromised during this critical period of a young scientist’s career. Thus, NIAID has created the PCTAS program to provide technical support to postdocs who have primary caregiver responsibilities. Principal Investigators with NIAID research grants may apply for technical support for a postdoc for a period of 1-2 years. For details, please refer to this website: http://www.niaid.nih.gov/ncn/training/pctas.htm NIAID will support this pilot program for two years. INQUIRIES Inquiries are strongly encouraged. Opportunities to clarify any issues or questions from potential applicants are welcome. Direct inquiries to: Milton J. Hernández, Ph.D. Director Office of Special Populations and Research Training Division of Extramural Activities (DEA) NIAID 6700-B Rockledge Drive Room 2101 Bethesda, MD 20892 Telephone: (301) 496-3775 Email: mh35c@nih.gov
