Nancy B. Firestone

Judge Firestone was appointed Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims on October 22, 1998. She graduated from Washington University with a B.A. in 1973, and she received her J.D. in 1977 with distinction, from the University of Missouri - Kansas City Law School where she was on the staff of the UMKC Law Review and Urban Lawyer (Law Review).

Judge Firestone formerly was Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Justice Department. Her duties there included managing and overseeing appeals and the defense of the Government in environmental cases. Judge Firestone returned to the Department in 1995 after five-years at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While at EPA, she served as the Associate Deputy Administrator (1989-1992), and as a Judge on the Environmental Appeals Board (1992-1995).

Judge Firestone began her legal career in the Justice Department, where she worked for over a decade on a wide range of environmental litigation and served as Deputy Chief of the Enforcement Section (1985-1989).

Judge Firestone’s publications include The Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Appeals Board, The Environmental Lawyer (1994); Practice Before the EPA - Environmental Law Practice Guide, Matthew Bender & Co. (1994). She is also an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center.
