Shared Knowledge Is the Enabler of Scientific Progress
OSTI is dedicated to the principle that, to advance science, research must be shared. With its proven track record in electronic delivery of groundbreaking information tools and services, OSTI is a leader in increasing access to the government's vast stores of R&D results. As OSTI has increased precision and power of knowledge transaction tools, information access to DOE R&D results has become quicker, more convenient, and more complete than ever before.
Transactions
The number of transactions by citizens and scientists who avail themselves of DOE R&D research results from OSTI resources has increased substantially due to increased accessibility online.
In FY 2006, there were approximately 44 million transactions by individuals accessing OSTI resources – doubling access in the past two years. The information is freely available on the web.
Access to Full-Text Reports
By deploying Information Age tools, access to information from full-text reports has dramatically increased.
In FY 1995, 10,000 copies of reports were delivered in paper upon request. In FY 2006, approximately 4.1 million full-text documents were downloaded from OSTI via the web, free of charge.
