Food Policy Councils convene citizens and government officials for the purpose of providing a comprehensive examination of a state or local food system. This unique, non-partisan form of civic engagement brings together a diverse array of food system stakeholders to develop food and agriculture policy recommendations. Drake University Agricultural Law Center in collaboration with non-profit organizations and state and local governments throughout the U.S. has developed an extensive initiative on food and agriculture policy. Through a partnership with the USDA Risk Management Agency and the National Agricultural Law Center, The State and Local Food Policy Project provides resources and support for the development of food policy councils. This site is a clearinghouse of information on the development of food policy councils and features education and outreach materials, reports, and publications.  If you have questions about the project or would like to know more about the benefits and outcomes of developing a food policy council, we would welcome the opportunity to talk with you.
