Discover the
of King County!
The numerous lakes in King County are a vital part of our environment. These lakes provide fish and wildlife habitat, supply recreational areas for a growing urban population, and are important in flood control and local groundwater recharge. King County's Department of Natural Resources, Water and Land Resources Division, has the responsibility of monitoring, protecting, managing, and improving lake ecosystems within its jurisdiction. The County has several programs that focus on our lake resources. Our programs include monitoring the quality of the big lakes like Sammamish, Union, and Washington as well as the numerous smaller lakes found throughout the county. We invite you to look at the sites below to learn more about our programs and services.
Lake Stewardship Program - information on our program and services, including volunteer monitoring of over 45 of the smaller lakes in King County. Video - Lakeside Living is a 23-minute video which focuses on shoreline management and lakeside landscaping practices to improve water quality, shoreline stability, and wildlife habitat.
