National Conference on Volunteering and Service
The National Conference on Volunteering and Service will be in Seattle at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center from June 18-20. The Corporation for National and Community Service and the Points of Light Foundation are hosting the National Conference, which is the largest gathering of leaders who mobilize people to service.

President's Council on Service and Civic Participation Teams Up With NASCAR
Kasey Kahne, NASCAR driver and member of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation teamed up with the NASCAR community to shine a spotlight on volunteer service through community service projects, charity walks, and other public awareness activities throughout the week leading up to the Neighborhood Excellence 400 Dover International Speedway on Sunday, June 4, 2006. In a video message on race day, President George W. Bush commended the NASCAR community for answering his call to service.

Task Force on New Americans to Promote Volunteer Service
President George W. Bush issued an Executive Order on June 7 establishing within the Department of Homeland Security a Task Force on New Americans. In the Executive Order, the President instructs the Task Force to identify ways to expand English and civics instruction for legal immigrants, including through faith-based, community, and other groups, and ways to promote volunteer community service.

President Bush Calls on Congress to Fund Citizen Corps
In a speech delivered on June 1, President George W. Bush praised Citizen Corps for their critical role in last year's Gulf Coast relief efforts and highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness. During his remarks, the President also called on Congress to provide Citizen Corps with the funding they need to keep our communities safe and prepared for emergencies.

President Bush Recognizes Chicago Couple For Dedication to Volunteer Service
President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Tanya and Barry Jeong upon arrival at the airport in Chicago, Illinois, on Monday, May 22, 2006. The Jeongs are volunteers at the Chinese Christian Union Church in Chicago.
