State Health Officials Voice Concern Over Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in Drinking Water.
Sacramento, CA (September 10, 2008) The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) has urged federal agencies to address concerns about the presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in America's drinking water. ASTHO urged the development of a national framework for the safe and proper disposal of unused PPCPs and a research agenda for treatment technologies to remove these contaminants from the environment. ASTHO also supports a public health research agenda to gain greater understanding of the potential health risks associated with PPCPs in drinking water .
