This program focuses the U.S. FWS efforts
in bays, estuaries and watersheds around
the U.S. coastline. The purpose of the
Coastal Program is to conserve fish
and wildlife and their habitats to support

to 21 high-priority coastal ecosystems.
Projects are funded through reimbursable
cooperative agreements developed after
contacting the local Coastal Program

National Fish Passage Program |

funding is for fish passage restoration
by removing or bypassing barriers to fish
movement. Primary project types include
dam removal, culvert renovation, designing
and installing fishways, installing fish
screens and barrier inventories to identify
additional fish passage impediments. Proposals
requesting between $1,000 and $50,000
are most attractive. There is no required
match; however a 50 percent cost-share
is highly encouraged. |

program provides Federal grants on a competitive
basis to individuals and groups engaged
in voluntary conservation efforts on private
lands that benefit imperiled species including
federally listed endangered or threatened

and their partners may submit proposals
directly to the Service for funding to
support those efforts. |

The WHIP priority area covers the Delaware Bay counties of Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem. This area hosts globally important habitat for many migratory wildlife species. The three selected priority habitats for the 2007 program are early successional habitat, wetland habitat, and disturbance-dependent habitat. The priority species is the Bog Turtle. Wildlife habitat enhancement projects that support these five priorities may be eligible for funding and technical assistance in 2007 through WHIP. |

Somerset, NJ, October 12, 2006 – The 2007 Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) has been expanded for 2007 to include energy saving practices that address air quality issues in NJ. Eligible applicants may receive payments for implementing alternative fuels, installation of solar pumps, and replacement of older diesel irrigation pumps. Through EQIP, farmers may receive financial and technical help with structural and management conservation practices that address soil, water, and grazing land issues on agricultural land. |
