ASCR Applied Mathematics Research Principal Investigators Meeting

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Terascale Simulation Facility
May 22-24, 2006

The Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (OASCR) held a meeting for investigators in the Applied Mathematics Research (AMR) Base Program May 22-24, 2007 in Livermore, CA.  The intent of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for new and continuing PIs to meet each other, learn about each other's work, and explore the possibility of engaging in collaborative work.  It is anticipated that a series of these meetings will be held, each will be hosted by a different institution and will highlight selected theme areas of both current and future interest to the AMR community.

Meeting Format
This 2.5 day meeting consisted of a combination of plenary talks, breakout sessions, and poster sessions to exchange technical information in this year's selected theme areas.  In addition, there was a panel presentation on a topic of relevance to the AMR community and a forum for open discussion with the AMR program managers.

 This year's theme areas included:

  • Numerical Methods for PDEs (e.g., meshing, CFD)
  • Linear/nonlinear solvers
  • Optimization
  • Multiscale
