FTP Server Help Page
Access Problems:
The access to many of our reports and data is through an FTP data server. This
will be identified by the URL beginning with: "ftp://ftp.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov". To
login to the FTP data server, use the login name of: anonymous and the password
consisting of your email address. Current versions of most browsers support
accessing pages with links to FTP data servers. Your browser will normally
default to the above login name and password.
If you are having trouble connecting to our FTP data sever through your browser
or a stand-alone FTP client, check to make sure that it is sending the proper
anonymous login name and password. Also, be sure to check with your local
computer support staff to make sure that you have the authorization to connect
to sites that provide FTP data service. Security Firewalls are sometimes setup
to block this kind of access.
If your Internet connection involves a firewall, you may need to activate the
"passive" setting within your ftp client. This will be apparent when you
can connect, but you are not able to download or list the available files.
Not all ftp clients support the "passive" setting.
Failed Downloads:
Some of the files that are available from our FTP data server may be rather
large. Depending upon the size of the file, your Internet connection
speed, or Internet traffic, unsuccessful downloads may occur. You may need
to attempt the download at a time of day when Internet traffic is less congested
or from a system that has better connection speeds.
If none of the above solutions solve your file transfer problem, please contact
the webmaster:
