BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII: 1 SECTION 1. Section 307-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is 2 amended to read as follows: 3 "ยง307-2 Board of directors; composition. (a) The affairs 4 of the research corporation shall be under the general management 5 and control of the board of directors, hereinafter referred to as 6 the "board". The board shall consist of [ten] eleven members[. 7 Five]: 8 (1) Effective July 1, 2000, two members of the board of 9 regents of the University of Hawaii, selected by the 10 board of regents, shall be members of the board for 11 terms to be determined by the board of regents; 12 provided that no term shall extend beyond the term as a 13 member of the board of regents[. The]; 14 (2) Two members shall be a vice president or dean of the 15 University of Hawaii, nominated by the president of the 16 university, and selected by the board of regents to 17 serve for a period of four years; 18 (3) Two members shall be faculty of the University of 19 Hawaii, nominated by the president of the university, Page 2 278 S.B. S.D. 2 H.D. 1 1 and selected by the board of regents, to serve for a 2 period of four years; and 3 (4) The remaining five members shall be appointed by the 4 governor pursuant to section 26-34. 5 (b) All the members appointed by the governor shall serve 6 for a term of four years, except that the governor may reduce the 7 terms of those initially appointed so as to provide, as nearly as 8 can be, for the expiration of an equal number of terms at 9 intervals of one year, each term commencing on July 1 and 10 expiring on June 30. 11 (c) All members of the board shall serve without pay, but 12 shall be entitled to reimbursement for necessary expenses while 13 attending meetings and while in the discharge of duties and 14 responsibilities. 15 (d) The members of the board shall elect the chairperson of 16 the board." 17 SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed. 18 New statutory material is underscored. 19 SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2000.
