The Food & Nutrition Service is working with state and local officials to ensure that individuals and families affected by the Midwest floods and tornadoes have access to food.  Through its Disaster Food Stamp Program, people who might not ordinarily qualify for food stamps may be eligible if they have had disaster damage to their homes or expenses related to protecting their homes, or if they have lost income as a result of the disaster, or have no access to bank accounts or other resources.
 
In addition to the Disaster Food Stamp Program, FNS has amended provisions of the Summer Food Service Program in affected counties to ensure that children can eat.

July 14th UPDATE

As of July 14th, FNS has approved operation of Disaster Food Stamp Programs in Presidentially declared disaster counties in five Midwest States due to recent flooding (37 counties in Indiana, 18 counties in Illinois, 62 counties in Iowa, 13 counties in Nebraska, and 30 counties in Wisconsin).

Being on this list does not mean that a county is running a DFSP today. Some counties may have finished accepting applications. Some counties may not yet have begun to accept applications.
