Aerial Photography

Aerial photographs of the Lower Illinois River Basin (LIRB) were taken from a remote-controlled (R/C) helicopter with a camera suspended from a remote-controlled camera rig. This was done to document the shape of LIRB study unit stream reaches and to document and quantify the amount of woody debris in the stream reaches. Woody debris is important because it influences the flow of water, which affects the shape of the stream. Woody debris also provides a habitat for fish and benthic macroinvertebrates that are used as indicator species of water quality.
