Groundman Training Program

If you enjoy traveling, working outdoors, and working with electrical equipment, then this training program may be for you. It is a full-time, paid training opportunity that leads to the position of Groundman. Groundman trainees support line crews by providing tools, equipment, and materials; operating equipment during conductor pulling operations; and assisting in structure setting.

The two-year program consists of a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Once a trainee has completed the program, he or she is eligible to transfer to either the Lineman apprentice program or the Electrician apprentice program as positions become available. Extensive travel is required in this program.

Salary

Current pay for the training program is as follows:

  • Period 1A: $32,225
  • Period 1B: $34,800
  • Period 1B-R: $35,230
  • Period 2: $38,240
  • Period 2-R: $38,670

Current pay for the Groundman position is $42,965 

Qualifications

In order to be considered for this training program, a candidate should be at least 18 years of age, have a high-school diploma or a GED certificate, possess a valid driver’s license, and have a reliable means of transportation. Candidates are required to pass the AIR test. See testing information.
