Sharing Policy and Guidance for Research on the Genetics of Alzheimer's Disease

NIA is accelerating the search for genes involved in Alzheimer's disease (AD) with the AD Genetics Initiative. A large bank of genetic material, cell lines, and data from families with multiple members with late-onset AD and from cases and controls is being assembled at the National Cell Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease at Indiana University (NCRAD). Genetics data are stored at The National Institute on Aging Genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease Data Storage Site (NIAGADS) at Washington University.  Scientists are invited to use these repositories to discover the risk factor genes that contribute to late-onset AD, the most common form of the disease.

Polices and Guidance for Sharing of Resources and Data From Studies on the Genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease (Revised August 2005)

The Policy Statement

The NIA policies on sharing of Alzheimer's Disease Genetics research resources apply to all funding mechanisms and all dollar amounts for awards in the area of the genetics of Alzheimer’s disease; this link also includes a sample form for sharing agreements. [See the related NIH Guide Notice NOT-AG–04-002.]

The National Cell Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease (NCRAD)

NIA's policy is that useful specimens and Associated Phenotypic Data for the genetics of late-onset AD are deposited at NCRAD whenever possible. Application for use should be made directly to NCRAD.

NIA's Genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease Data Storage Site (NIAGADS)

NIA's policy is that all Genetic Data derived from NIA-funded studies for the genetics of late-onset AD be deposited at NIAGADS or another NIA- approved site or both whenever possible. Application for use should be made directly to NIAGADS.
