The expanding age pyramid in the U.S. represents the estimated and projected age structure for the years 1982, 1995, and 2030, numbers are approximate

In the under 5-years age group:

  • In 1982 there were an estimated 9 million boys and 8.5 million girls.
     
  • In 1995 there were an estimated 10.5 million boys and 9.75 million girls.
     
  • By 2030 projections show there will be an estimated 11.75 million boys and 11 million girls.

In the 5- to 9-year-old age group:

  • In 1982 there were an estimated 8 million boys and 8 million girls.
     
  • In 1995 there were an estimated 9.75 million boys and 9.75 million girls.
     
  • By 2030 projections show there will be an estimated 11.8 million boys and 11 million girls.

In the 10- to 14-year-old age group:

  • In 1982 there were an estimated 8.5 million boys and 8.5 million girls.
     
  • In 1995 there were an estimated 10 million boys and 9 million girls.
