Education

B&W Y‑12 places a high value on encouraging students to study science, math and engineering by sponsoring and funding a variety of educational programs and activities, including several area science fairs. The company also supports community General Educational Degree and other literacy programs. In addition, contributions made by employees to institutions of higher education are maximized by a company matching gift program.

Project GRAD

The company is a sponsor of the Project GRAD program, a national school reform model helping elementary and middle school students, teachers and families in the “Heart of Knoxville” schools. The mission of the program is to ensure a quality public education for all children in economically disadvantaged communities so that high school graduation rates increase and graduates are prepared to enter and be successful in college.

Scholarships

B&W Y‑12 and the two parent companies have scholarship programs available for members of the community and children of employees. The company supports education by contributions to area schools for supplemental classroom resources and scientific equipment. An endowment scholarship has been established with The College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The company has also established an endowment scholarship with the East Tennessee Foundation for attendance at Pellissippi State Technical Community College or Roane State Community College.

Mentoring

Y‑12 employees provide volunteer support to area classrooms and student clubs as lecturers, project judges, tutors and mentors.
