![]() ![]() Mar. 5, 2008 February election results certifiedKing County Elections this morning certified the results of the Feb. 19, 2008 presidential primary and special elections. “Voter participation was lower than we had expected at 33.39 percent, a figure lower than the 2000 presidential primary,” said Sherril Huff, King County Elections director. King County’s turnout in the 2000 presidential primary was 38.19 percent. The Feb. 19 presidential primary marked the first election held in the new, consolidated elections headquarters in Renton. “Staff benefited from having resources under one roof and ballot security at an all-time high,” said Huff. “Staff put in extra effort to pull off a smooth primary and we are looking forward to the upcoming elections.” King County’s post-election audit of 4 percent of accessible voting units (or electronic voting equipment) used on Election Day resulted in a perfect match between the electronic vote totals and the paper audit trail. To date, all manual audits of King County’s accessible voting units have been 100 percent accurate. The electronic canvass of results will be available at www.kingcounty.gov/elections on Friday. King County Elections will provide a list of voter’s party selections to the political parties by 4:30 p.m. on March 10, 2008. To request a copy of this information, print, complete and fax a voter data request form and send to 206-296-0108. The form and instructions are posted on the Elections’ Web site at http://www.metrokc.gov/elections/links.htm. Requests take two business days to complete. Preparations for the March 11, 2008 special election are well underway with Election Day less than one week away. There will not be an April 22 special election, as the deadline for jurisdictions to file resolutions passed, with no jurisdictions filing, on Feb. 29. |
