Feb. 20, 2008 Exercise your green thumb in a garden plot; King County rents community garden space in Kent
Working in your own community garden plot can result in fresh
produce and flowers all summer long, not to mention gardening's
well-known stress reduction benefits.
Garden plots are available for rent at North Green River Park in Kent from the King County Parks and Recreation Division.
King
County's North Green River Garden plots measure 10 feet wide by 40 feet
long, or 400 square feet of cultivating space. Each plot rents for $50
each for the season and are renewable.
The gardens
are located at a bend in the Green River near Central Avenue South and
South 259th Street, and offer enough sunny acreage for more than 100
plots featuring views of the river and park.
Registration forms are at http://www.metrokc.gov/parks/news/pdf/comgardapp1.pdf.
Mail the completed form with payment to the address printed on the
form, or call 206-205-3661 to have an application mailed to you along
with a chart showing available plots. Prospective gardeners can either
visit the garden to choose a plot, or let parks staff assign a plot for
you.
Driving directions to the North Green River Gardens are available at http://www.metrokc.gov/parks/news/pdf/driving.pdf, or by calling 206-205-3661.
