Figure 4.8 is titled "Lifetime Daily Cigarette Smoking by Current Smoking Status, by Age: 2004." It is a bar graph, where the age in years is shown on the horizontal axis, and the percentage who ever smoked daily is shown on the vertical axis. There are 14 age categories, and for each age category, the bar is separated into two sections: smoked in the past month; and did not smoke in the past month.

Among persons aged 12 or 13 years old, 1.0 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 0.7 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 0.3 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 14 or 15, 5.6 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 4.7% who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 0.9 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 16 or 17, 13.9 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 12.1 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 1.8 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 18 to 20, 28.7 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 25.4 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 3.3 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 21 to 25, 38.8 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 31.8 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 7.0 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 26 to 29, 39.4 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 30.2 percent who had ever smoked and smoked in the past month, and 9.2 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 30 to 34, 34.9 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 24.2 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 10.7 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 35 to 39, 37.9 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 25.4 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 12.5 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 40 to 44, 44.3 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 28.0 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 16.3 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 45 to 49, 47.1 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 26.1 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 21.0 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 50 to 54, 48.9 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 22.6 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 26.3 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 55 to 59, 50.1 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 20.1 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 30.0 percent who had ever smoked daily in their lifetime but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 60 to 64, 52.0 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 17.6 percent who had ever smoked and smoked in the past month, and 34.4 percent who had ever smoked but did not smoke in the past month.
Among persons aged 65 or older, 44.0 percent had ever smoked daily. This breaks down to 8.3 percent who had ever smoked daily and smoked in the past month, and 35.7 percent who had ever smoked daily but did not smoke in the past month.
