Civil Remedies

New Directions from the Field: Victims’ Rights and Services for the 21st Century, Bulletin #17: Civil Remedies

This bulletin explains that victims experience tangible costs of crime estimated at $105 billion annually, plus intangible costs of an estimated $345 billion annually. Civil remedies compensate victims financially, empower victims to exercise their rights, and can have preventive effects. Attorneys, victim service providers, and victims are often unaware of the relief available through civil lawsuits. August 1998; Free (NCJ 172826); OVC.
