USTDA Reopens its Program in Thailand
WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 7, 2008) – USTDA Acting Director Leocadia I. Zak today announced the reopening of the agency's program in Thailand. The announcement follows the certification by the U.S. Department of State to Congress yesterday of Thailand's inauguration of a democratically elected government.
"I want to congratulate the Thai people on their recent democratic elections," said Acting Director Leocadia I. Zak. "Prior to the suspension of USTDA's program in 2006, the agency was active in assisting Thai project sponsors in identifying commercially based solutions to their development priorities. Those efforts yielded many successful relationships between U.S. firms and their Thai partners. We look forward to building on this record with the resumption of USTDA's program."
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency advances economic development and U.S. commercial interests in developing and middle-income countries. The agency funds various forms of technical assistance, early investment analysis, training, orientation visits and business workshops that support the development of a modern infrastructure and a fair and open trading environment. USTDA's strategic use of foreign assistance funds to support sound investment policy and decision-making in host countries creates an enabling environment for trade, investment and sustainable economic development. In carrying out its mission, USTDA gives emphasis to economic sectors that may benefit from U.S. exports of goods and services.
