POSITION SUMMARY:
Duties of the officer include the provision of dental services to patients, Indian or Non-Indian, served at the facility to which the Officer is assigned, or to any other facility or program where the Tribe provides services under a PL 936-638 contract, including care for hospitalized patients in accordance with privileges granted. The Staff Dentist will be responsible for day to day activities under the supervision of the Supervising Dentist. These include all dental procedures associated with a general dentistry clinic.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide dental health services to eligible patients in accordance with Indian Health Service policies, maintains dental lab, MSDS log, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
2. Assist in coordinating, implementing and evaluating community outreach programs.
3. Establishes and maintains relations with other health disciplines and tribal health groups, as well as other official and non-official health, educational, and governing organizations.
4. Acknowledges all communications and submits required reports.
5. Promotes dignity, respect, and mutual understanding between the dental staff and the people they serve.
CONTACTS/PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts with the public eligible to receive dental services at the Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center Dental Clinic and associated staff employed there for the purpose of providing direct care dental services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY HAZARDS:
As with any dental clinic, there exists the potential risk of exposure to body fluids such as blood and saliva and/or the potential for needle sticks and/or dental instrument skin puncture. Latex is used in the dental office which may produce allergic reactions in some. Patient confidentiality is mandatory.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements include DDS/DMD degree from an accredited school and a Michigan Dental License or license within the state of Michigan soon after hiring.
