JOB DESCRIPTION
Behavioral Health Therapist
DEPARTMENT: Behavioral Health Services
SUPERVISOR: Behavioral Health Director
SUPERVISES: None
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Behavioral Health Therapist is responsible to develop and implement a program that will focus on individual, family and group psychotherapy/counseling, and community education/training for American Indians (emphasis on youth) in the areas of mental health and dual diagnosis.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Gather and analyze community mental health data and needs.
2. Maintain client record keeping system including: client assessments, written evaluations, development and revision of treatment plans, maintenance of progress notes and written discharge summaries for clients.
3. Maintain liaison with psychiatrists or other MDs who administer psychotropic medications to clients, including conducting quarterly psychotropic medication reviews.
4. With client consent, maintain liaisons with other agencies or providers/therapists involved with client.
5. Provide individual, group and family counseling/psychotherapy (including phone consultations) for adults, adolescents and children.
6. Provide referrals to appropriate internal and external resources.
7. Utilize PCCs, Superbills; make monthly reports and all other reports as appropriate.
8. Conduct mental health education for the community and other staff.
9. Consult with other staff on mental health issues, including participation in the interdepartmental case management meetings.
10. Update education through courses, workshops and professional literature as it relates to psychotherapy, particularly in its application to Native Americans.
11. Perform other Program related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
1. CA LCSW/MFT license current and in good standing.
2. Minimum of two years experience working in Behavioral Health Counseling Program.
3. Experience working in a therapeutic setting with children.
4. Must be able to relate, understand, and have a working knowledge of the Indian Community.
5. Current CDL , vehicle insurance, and DMV printout.
6. Indian Preference shall be given to the greatest extent possible.
