JAMES D. CRAIG, ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR
OPERATIONAL SUPPORT DIVISION

Photo of James D. CraigJames D. Craig is in his 24th year with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and currently serves as the Assistant Administrator for the Operational Support Division. Mr. Craig is also the agency’s Chief Information Officer. Mr. Craig has oversight responsibilities for DEA’s Office of Information Systems, Office of Administration, Office of Forensic Sciences, and Office of Investigative Technology. In essence, Mr. Craig is responsible for all DEA facilities, equipment, forensic and digital laboratories, computer systems, and telecommunications intercept programs throughout the world. He manages DEA’s largest Division, with over 1,300 employees (including contractors) and an annual budget of approximately $320 million.

Mr. Craig began his law enforcement career in 1980 with the Hollywood (Florida) Police Department. He joined DEA in 1983 and served as a street agent in Miami and New York City, as well as in Nicosia, Cyprus. He was initially promoted in 1993, serving as a Resident Agent in Charge (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and later as an Inspector at DEA Headquarters. In 1996, Mr. Craig was promoted again, serving assignments as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Special Operations Division and in the Denver, Colorado Field Division. In 2002, Mr. Craig was once again promoted to DEA's Senior Executive Service as the Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division and in 2004 was reassigned to the same position in the Houston Field Division.

For many years, Mr. Craig has been at the forefront of emerging telecommunications issues. He has forged numerous relationships within the law enforcement community, as well as the telecommunications industry, while playing a significant role in evolving legislation relative to law enforcement issues.

Mr. Craig holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University. He has been married for 20 years and has three teenage children. Mr. Craig currently resides in Northern Virginia.
