FOIA Guide Seminar Scheduled for June 17

As announced through FOIA Post four weeks ago, the Office of Information and Privacy is planning to hold its largest FOIA-training program, the FOIA Guide Seminar, upon completion of its revision of the Freedom of Information Act Guide & Privacy Act Overview reference volume this year. See FOIA Post, "New FOIA Guide & Privacy Act Overview to Be Published in May" (posted 1/23/04).

OIP has now made final arrangements for this program to be held on Thursday, June 17, in the amphitheater of the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center Building in Washington, D.C., the same location at which it was held in June 2002 upon completion of the May 2002 "FOIA Guide." As in the past, this seminar will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. or later, depending upon the volume of participation and the logistics of program coordination in this location.

This governmentwide FOIA program, designed primarily for the agency access professional or agency official who needs only a periodic update on current FOIA case law and policy developments, is conducted by OIP with funding support from the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center, which allows it to be held in the Reagan Building's facilities. Arrangements have been made for the amphitheater to accommodate more than 600 attendees for this program.

As with other Department of Justice FOIA-training programs, this seminar is available to the employees of all federal agencies, free of charge, subject only to space limitations. See FOIA Post, "FOIA Training Opportunities, Fiscal Year 2004" (posted 7/23/03). Now that the date for the seminar has been set, agency FOIA personnel may register for it by calling the Office of Information and Privacy at (202) 514-3642.

Questions regarding the FOIA Guide Seminar, or about any of the Department of Justice's FOIA-training programs, also may be directed to OIP's Training Officer, Bertina Adams Cleveland, at (202) 514-1010.  (posted 2/19/04)
