Engineering Students Wanted for Careers in Weapons Testing

[agency logo]

The U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) has civilian Student Career Experience Program openings for engineering students interested in careers in weapons testing. YPG is located in the southwest corner of Arizona.

As a general purpose proving ground, YPG plans and conducts a wide variety of research and development tests for all the military services and friendly nations around the globe. At over 1,300 square miles in size and with a variety of state-of-the-art test facilities, YPG is a key Defense test installation. The tests performed are generally grouped within five mission areas, which include munitions and weapons, aviation and air drop systems (aircraft armament and air delivery), automotive, combat systems, and desert environmental. Aside from routinely testing equipment and munitions for all the United States military services and a variety of friendly nations, test engineers frequently work with other government agencies (such as NASA and the Department of Energy) and private industry.

The Student Career Experience Program provides for periods of attendance at accredited schools combined with periods of career-related work. This is a formally structured program and requires a written agreement by all parties (agency, school, and student) as to the nature of work, continuation in, and successful completion of the Program. Students who have met all the requirements of the program may be non-competitively converted to a permanent career or career-conditional appointment in an occupation related to their academic training and work experience. Students earn $7.98 to $9.77 per hour to start depending upon level of education and are eligible for insurance, retirement, and other benefits. YPG may also provide tuition assistance to students.

YPG has several openings for engineering students working toward Baccalaureate and Graduate degrees in mechanical, electronics and aerospace engineering. Applications can be submitted at any time. Application procedures may be found at the following web page - http://www.wcpoc.army.mil/EmploymentOpportunities/student_career_empl.htm.
