U.S. Department of Justice
Antitrust Division
Law Enforcement: Protecting Competition in the American Economy
The Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice works in
the public interest to promote a competitive and productive
American economy. Its work involves the entire spectrum of American
businesses. The Division's merger and civil enforcement cases can
affect the structure and performance of an entire industry, and
its criminal prosecutions target white-collar antitrust crimes that
disadvantage honest businesses and rob American consumers.
The Antitrust Division offers law students the opportunity to work
on diverse, high profile and interesting cases. The Division's
law interns gain practical experience in civil and/or criminal
statutes that prohibit conspiracies in restraint of trade,
monopolization and anticompetitive mergers, as well as in general
legal research and writing. Other students have the opportunity
to perform paralegal, research analyst, clerical, and administrative
work that supports the Division's mission.
The Antitrust Division employs students through the following
programs: the Attorney General's Summer Law Intern Program, the
Legal Intern Program, and the Student Educational Employment
Program.
The Attorney General's Summer Law Intern Program
provides paid internships to students who have completed
at least one semester of law school, are entering their second year
of law school, or are graduating from law school and will enter a
judicial clerkship, or a full-time graduate law program. The
application deadline is typically the last Friday in September
each year.
The Legal Intern Program provides unpaid internships during the summer and/or the academic year. There are three types of legal internships available: volunteer, work-study, and part-time. There is no application deadline; applications are accepted at any time.
The Student Educational Employment Program has two components: student temporary employment and student career experience. These programs provide paid work experience to high school, vocational and technical, associate degree, baccalaureate degree, graduate degree, and professional degree students on a part-time basis. There is no application deadline; applications are accepted at any time.
