Student Career Experience
Program (SCEP)
General
The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), commonly referred to as the Co-op Program, offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study. It provides formal periods of work and study while you are attending school. It requires a commitment by you, your school, and the employing federal agency. You may be eligible for permanent employment under this component after successfully completing your education and meeting work requirements.
- Commonly referred to as the work/study or Co-op Program
- Arranged schedule of school and work to meet minimum of work hours prior to graduation
- Provides high school, undergraduate, and graduate students experience directly related to their educational program and career goals
- Academic credit for work experience
- Paid position
Who Qualifies?
- Must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution at least half-time and pursuing a degree or certificate
- Must be enrolled in co-op program at education institute
- NIST, the educational institution, and student agree on a schedule combining periods of school and work to ensure that the student will work the minimum hours required prior to graduation, or other conversion provisions
- The minimum age allowed for Federal employment is 16

How to Apply
- Contact your educational institution's Cooperative Education Program Office for more information and referral to NIST, and THEN
- Submit application for NIST review. You will be contacted if being considered for employment.
