Parker Dam Parker Dam is a concrete arch structure commonly called the "deepest dam in the world."  Seventy-three percent of the dam´s structural height of 320 feet is below the original river bed; only about 85 feet of the dam´s structural height is visible (its superstructure rises another 62 feet above the roadway across the top of the dam).

The Water 2025 Initiative - Water is the lifeblood of the American West and the foundation of its economy. It can also be the scarcest resource in some of the fastest growing areas of the country. Existing water supplies are, or will be, inadequate in many parts of the West. Water 2025 focuses on stretching existing water supplies through collaboration, technology and innovative, market-based solutions. It is designed to produce results and demonstrate investments that can help in preventing crises and conflict in the West.

Since the inception of Water 2025 in 2004, great strides have been made in developing new ways of thinking about how to avoid water conflicts before a crisis occurs. By working with irrigation and water districts, Western States, Tribes, and other local entities to develop innovative on-the-ground solutions to water supply problems, competing interests can be brought together to find collaborative, local solutions for the future.

Through the Water 2025 Challenge Grant program, Reclamation enters into collaborative partnerships with local entities on a 50/50 cost-share basis to implement projects that will stretch water resources through conservation, efficiency and water marketing.

Water 2025’s newest program, System Optimization Reviews, is accepting applications for studies that explore opportunities for improving efficiency and operations of a water delivery system, water district, or water basin.
In FY 2008 Water 2025 will:

  • Retrofit and modernize existing facilities aimed at conserving water, including automation and telemetry, and new water measurement devices.
  • Build on the success of the program to date: 122 Challenge Grant projects leveraging $25.5 million in Federal funding with local partnerships into almost $96 million in water management improvements in 16 western states. Those 122 projects will create new water banks, promote the use of advanced technology to improve water management, and increase collaboration among Federal, State, tribal, and local entities.
  • Create or contribute to water markets to help stretch scarce water.
